I know many of you have questions about where to access resources and information and I wanted to provide you with some excellent resources to help you and your family during COVID-19.
North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has a page with the latest news and important links to more resources. You can visit their COVID-19 website at https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/.
Meals for Children
If your family or a family you know needs food assistance, you can text FOODNC to 877-877 for locations of free meal sites. Additionally, No Kid Hungry has created a map of locations that families in need can get food. Visit http://nokidhungrync.org/covid19/ for more information.
Filing for Unemployment
I know many people have already lost their jobs due to COVID-19. The fastest way to file for Unemployment benefits is online at https://des.nc.gov/apply-unemployment.
If you have filed for unemployment and not received your benefits yet, please contact my legislative office at Sam.Searcy@ncleg.net and my staff and I will be happy to help you.
I know that there is still a lot of uncertainty out there about what our state will look like as we begin to move closer to a full re-opening, but I assure you that I will continue to work every day to support the people of North Carolina as we continue working together to recover.
